In 2019 marks the centenary of the murder of Rosa Luxemburg, killed by the Freikorps militia in Berlin in 1919. Immagina un paesaggio eroico (Imagine an heroic landscape) find it’s first inspiration in the letters that the Marxist revolutionary Sonia Liebknecht sent from prison between 1917 and 1918. These letters move us with their humanity and sensitivity to everything that lives (bird, insect, plant). We create an ephemeral, daily regenerable monument, made with simple precarious materials, such as our bodies and our voices; a monument that is gradually built in front of the audience’s eyes. What is an heroic landscape? What is utopia? What is heroism? In which way does it respond to the need of justice, humanity, socialism, to the extreme inequality and brutality of nature? Rosa Luxemburg seems to find heroism in the humble fight of a beetle devoured by ants, or in the jump of a bird. How can we face the small, what appears to be insignificant, in heroic terms? What is worth fighting for? Nova

Nova Melancholia

Nova Melancholia is a Greek company based in Athens. Since 2007, it works on non-linear narrations and open dramaturgy, by using editing as a method to create actions and images that are apparently not related, and compose a multi-perspective landscape. The outcome is an hybrid, oscillating between visual arts, performance and performance lectures. The aesthetic strategies often includes camp and/or queer elements. Nova Melancholia uses poetry, essays and non-theatrical texts to try creating a non systematic map of different aesthetics, strategies and texts that contributed to the configuration of nowadays melancholy.
